Unfortunately, the studio sank all of its advertising dollars into the fact that Drive Angrywas shot in 3D,right around the time that was beginning to wane a bit as a selling point. In fact, if you watch it through the prism of being an "unlicensed" Ghost Rider movie, it more or less functions as one. Drive Angry is the movie we all wanted Ghost Rider to be. The film came to home video in early 2008 just as Blu-ray was proving the dominant high-def format, and though it made for a worthy demo disc, it just never caught on as more than a cult classic.įast-forward to 2011 and another flop is on the horizon. That's a real shame because it's an absolutely insane movie in the same vein as much more successful movies like Crank, Face/Off, and John Wick, where logic takes a backseat to really kickass action setups. Shoot 'Em Up came and went in the late summer of 2007, almost completely unnoticed. This week, Nic Cage's otherwise fun and cheeky flick Drive Angry gets dinged for straight-up stealing a scene from an equally bonkers flick from four years earlier titled Shoot 'Em Up.
But if you're looking for a great piece of trash to waste a couple hours in without checking your brain at the door, Drive Angry 3D might just be the ticket. In our weekly series Anatomy of a Scene's Anatomy, we're going to be taking a look at (in)famous sexscenes and nude scenes throughout cinema history and examining their construction, their relationship to the film around it, and their legacy. Even so, some scenes may be too much for some. All of this content is not only a hallmark of the entire grindhouse genre, but also portrayed in a self-aware and downright hilarious way. Finally, there are several scenes that have characters with a cigarette or cigar in their mouth. Dodge Chargers, Chevrolet Chevelles, and the like lovingly adorn the screen. There's also a bit more product placement than CSM mentioned, including the aforementioned Jack Daniel's, Milton clearly wearing Oakley sunglasses, and LOADS of cars. I think I even heard a c-word used somewhere. Language is raw, with about 75 f-bombs and other miscellaneous profanity. On the sex front, there's quite a bit of nudity and sex throughout, and there's some sexualized threat and violence aimed at Piper. There's also comically exaggerated gore and blood spurts, but again, that's to be expected. Violence also abounds, with limbs getting blown off, stabbings, beatings, car crashes, explosions, cop-killing, and a gun from Hell that can make pretty much anything spontaneously combust. It's all in hilariously bad taste, and tame by grindhouse standards, but it's still pretty offensive. One of the most hilariously sleazy (and offensive) scenes occurs when Milton is simultaneously having sex with a woman, blowing the heads off of about 10 men with a shotgun, chomping on a cigar, and drinking a bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey. And, once again, this isn't a kiddie flick. Yeah, this is a pretty basic plotline, but it's trashy enough to make you smile. Together in her Dodge Charger, they travel cross-country to stop the cult. He is joined by a sexy waitress named Piper, whose boyfriend had just recently left her. In Drive Angry, a man named John Milton comes up from Hell to save his baby granddaughter from being sacrificed by a cult leader who sacrificed his daughter. Like Piranha 3D before it, Drive Angry relies on every gimmick in the book to make B-film lovers rejoice. Which Side of History? How Technology Is Reshaping Democracy and Our LivesĪ trashy grindhouse flick set in the modern era, Drive Angry 3D is perfect cult fodder and better than most of Nick Cage's recent material (*cough*Season of the Witch*cough*), but only because of its extreme content.Cómo saber si una aplicación o sitio web son realmente educativos.
